While researching a copyright matter recently, I happened upon a web site called Public Domain Music. The web site includes a listing of songs, music, sound effects recordings, and the like which have been dedicated to the public domain, and can be used without having to pay a royalty.
If you would like to download some of the songs/music from the site, they are available for purchase. Samples of some of the songs/music can be listened to on the site as well.
